Need help with the Bath and Body Works app not working

Is anyone else having issues with the Bath and Body Works app not loading or crashing at checkout? I’m missing deals and rewards because I can’t place orders through the app. I’ve tried reinstalling and updating my phone, but nothing fixes it. Can someone explain what might be causing this and how to get the app working again

Same issue here last week. App froze at checkout and kept kicking me out. Here is what worked for me and what other folks reported on Reddit:

  1. Check app version
    • Go to App Store or Google Play
    • Make sure you are on the latest version
Their updates often fix cart and checkout bugs.

  2. Clear app data / cache
    • iPhone: Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Bath & Body Works > Offload App, then reinstall
    • Android: Settings > Apps > Bath & Body Works > Storage > Clear cache, then Clear data

  3. Try mobile browser instead
    • Go to bathandbodyworks.com in Safari or Chrome
    • Log in with the same account
    • Your rewards and offers usually show under My Rewards or at checkout
I checked my account this way and my rewards were still there even after the app failed.

  4. Turn off VPN and ad blockers
    • If you use a VPN, ad blocker, or private DNS, turn it off
    • Some people reported the app stopped loading on WiFi, but worked on cellular

  5. Switch networks
    • Try WiFi only
    • If that fails, try cellular data only
For me, checkout crashed on WiFi but worked on 5G.

  6. Remove saved payment then re-add
    • In the app, delete saved cards
    • Close app fully
    • Reopen and add the card again at checkout
My crash happened right after selecting a saved card.

  7. Check outage reports
    • Search “Bath and Body Works app down” on X or DownDetector
When there is a spike, it is usually on their side, not your phone.

  8. Protect the deal if the app keeps failing
    • Screenshot your offers, rewards, and cart
    • Call customer service or use the website chat and explain the app failure
    • I got my promo honored once after a failed app order with those screenshots. Took like 10 mins.

  9. Reinstall in this exact order
    • Log out of the app first
    • Delete the app
    • Restart your phone
    • Reinstall from the store
    • Log back in, then try adding one cheap item and test checkout

If nothing works for a day or two, I would skip the app for purchases and use the browser, but still keep the app for checking rewards. Their app has had bugs especially around big promo days, so I always keep a backup plan with the website.

Yeah, the app’s been a mess for a lot of people, you’re not alone. @viaggiatoresolare already hit most of the “normal” troubleshooting, so I’ll throw in a few extra angles I’ve seen help:

  1. Time your orders
Sounds dumb, but the app seems to choke hardest during big promos and at peak times (evenings & Saturday/Sunday mornings). I’ve had it crash nonstop during a $5.95 body care sale, then work fine at like 10:30 pm the same night. If a deal is all-day, try off-peak hours.

  2. Split what you’re doing
The app seems to hate when you’re stacking too much at once. Try:
    • Add items in the app, but do checkout on browser
    • Or build cart on browser and just open app to clip rewards / check barcodes in-store
The fewer moving parts at checkout, the less it freaks out.

  3. Avoid super huge carts
When I had 25+ items, rewards, and multiple promo codes, checkout exploded every time. When I cut it to 10–12 items, it suddenly behaved. If your cart is packed, try doing 2 smaller orders, especially if shipping is free or cheap.

  4. Double check your account region & store
There’s occasionally weirdness if your “home store” in the app is different from your region or if your billing address is in another state than the selected store. Try:
    • Changing your default store in the app
    • Making sure your address, ZIP, and state are all consistent
That actually fixed one round of random errors for me.

  5. Watch the reward application order
Sometimes it bugs if you apply rewards or coupons in a certain order. Try:
    • Remove all applied offers
    • Add items first
    • Apply rewards and codes last, one at a time, checking after each one
I know @viaggiatoresolare suggested using browser as backup, but I’ve actually had the reverse happen: browser glitched, app worked. So it’s worth swapping back and forth if one fails.

  6. Protect your rewards in a different way
In addition to screenshots, I keep a note in my phone with:
    • Reward type (free item, % off, etc.)
    • Expiration date
    • Email subject line where it came from
Then if everything breaks, I contact support through the website or call in and say “The app won’t let me check out, reward expiring today, here’s the email and code.” They’ve reissued or extended for me a couple times.

  7. Use in-store if possible but still earn online rewards
If there’s a store near you, you can:
    • Use your phone number at checkout so rewards still build
    • Have them scan offers from your email instead of relying on the app
Then later you can use your rewards online when the app/site behaves.

  8. Keep an eye on how you log in
If you use “Sign in with Apple/Google,” sometimes that causes weird “phantom” accounts or sync issues. If possible, log out and log back in with the regular email + password for the same email address. I had rewards not showing correctly until I stopped using “continue with Apple.”

At this point, I treat the B&BW app like a flaky friend: fun when it works, but I always assume it might ghost me at checkout. Backup plan ready, screenshots saved, browser open in another tab, and I never wait until the last hour of a sale to place the order anymore.

Yeah, the Bath and Body Works app has been acting like it’s held together with duct tape lately. Since @viaggiatoresolare already hit the “use browser / off‑peak / smaller cart” angle, here are some different routes that might help or at least keep you from losing rewards:

1. Focus on your account, not just the app

Sometimes it is the account data that is corrupt, not the install.

  • Log in on a desktop browser and:
    • Remove super old saved addresses and cards
    • Clear out any half‑finished carts from months ago
    • Make sure your email is verified
  • Then log out everywhere, including the app, and log back in freshly.
I have seen carts sync badly and cause crashes right when you hit checkout.

2. Turn off “smart” stuff on your phone for checkout

A few things that often conflict with older or janky apps:

  • VPN or ad blocker (especially DNS‑based ones)
  • Private relay / “Secure Wi‑Fi” features from carriers
  • Battery saver or “optimize this app” settings that pause network in the background

Try one checkout with: VPN off, ad blocker off for the domain, and battery saver disabled. Not ideal, but good for testing.

3. Use the website like a “recovery mode”

Instead of using the app as primary:

  • Do everything on the website (cart, payment, rewards)
  • Only open the app to:
    • Check your rewards balance
    • Pull up barcodes if you shop in store

If the Bath and Body Works app refuses to load your cart, the site usually still has it. Sometimes the app is just a bad skin on top of the same backend, and the site handles errors better.

4. Clean out app data more aggressively

Reinstalling is good, but on some phones that still leaves cached junk.

  • On iOS:
    • Settings → General → iPhone Storage → find the app → Offload App → then delete documents & data if possible, then reinstall.
  • On Android:
    • Settings → Apps → Bath & Body Works → Storage → Clear cache, then Clear data, then uninstall & reinstall.

That gives you a truly fresh start.

5. Treat rewards like they will break

You already know you are missing rewards, so protect yourself:

  • Screenshot every reward with the barcode and expiration
  • Keep a tiny text note with the codes and dates
  • When the app blocks checkout right before a reward expires, contact support through chat or phone and say clearly:
    • App error at checkout
    • Reward code + expiration
They often reissue or extend if you have any proof at all. Here I actually agree with @viaggiatoresolare: documentation is your best friend.

6. Don’t fully trust “Sign in with Apple / Google”

I slightly disagree with the idea that you should always stop using them. For some people, they work perfectly. The real issue is switching back and forth.

Pick one login method and stick to it. If you started with email + password, stay with that. If you started with Apple, do not also create a separate password account with the same email. That is when rewards start living on two different “ghost” profiles.

7. When all else fails: change how you place the order

If the app crashes at payment every time:

  • Use “guest checkout” on the website with the same email address your account uses
  • After the order, contact support and have them attach the order to your rewards account

Not perfect, but better than losing a sale or a coupon.

Pros & cons of relying on the Bath and Body Works app itself

Pros

  • Easy access to barcodes and rewards in store
  • Push alerts for new promos and drops
  • Quicker than typing everything in a browser when it behaves

Cons

  • Crashes during big promos and at checkout
  • Rewards sometimes vanish or do not sync correctly
  • Login issues if you have more than one login method or older data
  • Updates do not always fix core stability problems

Bottom line: treat the Bath and Body Works app like a helper, not the only way to shop. Use the website as your “stable mode,” keep proof of every reward, and if it keeps blocking purchases, push support to attach orders and fix your account so you stop losing deals.
