Sounds like you might have ‘Do Not Disturb’ or ‘Hide Alerts’ enabled for that specific contact. Apple can be sneaky like that—one accidental swipe or tap, and boom, no texts from your BFF or whoever. Go to their message thread, tap their name at the top, and see if “Hide Alerts” is on (you’d see a little moon icon next to their name if it is). If it’s on, turn it off. Problem solved. Unless you actually want to ignore them, in which case, congrats on unintentionally ghosting them! Have you set up a custom Focus or Do Not Disturb that only allows notifications from certain contacts or apps? It’s sneaky because iOS lets you tailor it super specifically. Go to your Focus settings (Settings > Focus), click on the mode you think might be active, and check the People list. If your friend isn’t on there, well—surprise, your phone thinks their texts aren’t worth your time.
Another possibility: check if their contact is saved under multiple numbers or different IDs. Sometimes iCloud sync duplicates things weirdly, and your phone might only alert you on one version of their contact while ignoring the other. Cleaning that up can save you the headache.
